Over the four months of weekly meetings, Tomoka “Journey in Manhood” topics included Persistence, Coveting, Fathers and Sons, Manners, The Power of Keeping Your Word, and Self Expression. This team, shown above, under the leadership of Bryan Thomas of Winter Park, FL, developed  for the men in the character-based program at Tomoka Correctional Inst. in Daytona Beach.  The aim was to impart ways to become a better man, and team members gave short talks once a week over four months, followed by small group discussion.  Each talk drew on what the team leader described as “insights from a lifetime of experience, delivered in a way that will not set off anybody’s BS detector… In other words, be the real deal.”  The team members put themselves “out there in a personal, practical and forthright way to underscore how we share the challenge of becoming better men with those inside the wire.”
