GRANT AWARDED BY VOLUNTEER FLORIDA
FOUNDATION
Grant awarded by Volunteer Florida Foundation focuses on
women's programs at Lowell C.I. Designed to strengthen
the organization, the grant will enable hiring a Community
Resource Coordinator to support reentry and transition
programming for women.
Horizon is collaborating with Gateless Gate Zen Center to
offer Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction classes and
Criminal and Addictive Thinking classes. The grant arises
from the Compassion Florida Fund and includes a Family Day
for the children of the participating women.
Research on MBSR classes in prison was conducted in
Massachusetts and found to be highly effective, particularly
for women.
